The late model 1HZ engines can be determined by date code, or by the use of a 92T timing belt and a timing belt tensioner pulley that uses a hydraulic tensioning device instead of a spring. The timing belt cover shape is also different on these vehicles.
The late model 1HZs begin with approximately 1997 production dates to current production. Check the specifics of your vehicle, or send us your VIN info, model codes - or a photo of your VIN tag so we can verify the correct parts for your application.
This kit saves ~10% compared to the individual parts
Kit contents:
This kit is locally assembled by RADD Cruisers
Origin of parts used in this kit:
Genuine Toyota - Japan (seals, gaskets, label)
Toyota OEM - Japan (bearing, hydraulic device)
Tier 1 Japanese-made parts (water pump, belt)
A Cautionary Note:
All diesel engines are interference engines - this means that if the timing belt or the timing tensioner pulley bearing fails, then the pistons will contact the valves potentially causing severe (read: very expensive) engine damage.
Proper repair procedures require that all of the timing components and the water pump are replaced at the Toyota recommended replacement interval of 100,000kms or 5 years, whichever comes first, or what is listed in your Factory Service Manual if it differs from this recommendation.
It is further recommended that other parts are inspected and replaced as necessary, including belts, radiator and heater hoses, thermostat and gasket, along with engine coolant at the proper concentration.
Pro Tips:
When replacing your timing belt we always recommend that you also replace your tensioner pulley and spring - these parts are included in the kit.
The cam seal and injection pump gear seal are also worth doing, and come in the kit.
When replacing the timing components, it is also worth replacing the water pump at the same time. The water pump lifespan is only somewhat longer than the timing components, and the timing components need to be removed to replace the water pump, making this a worthwhile combination job.
Other parts you may want to consider:
- Thermostat with gasket 90916-03089
- Radiator Hoses - application dependent
You will need two 4L jugs of concentrated coolant and distilled or reverse osmosis water to dilute your coolant.
A new rad cap is good idea too - 16401-71010
