This nylon bushing is used on many different Toyota manual transmissions (see the list below).

This part fits onto the end of the shift lever where it inserts into the shift selector ('shift lever housing') in the top of the transmission - and this lever controls the shift forks.

When this part has broken down or crumbled, or is missing, it leads to sloppy and imprecise feeling shifts. The shift lever has more movement than it should have, and can sometimes rattle around in the shift lever housing creating noise.

This item is also commonly dropped into the transmission, in some models, when the shift lever is removed too abruptly... the key to not having it fall in, is removing the shift lever slowly so that the stiction caused by the oil that is holding these parts together is released without causing the this nylon bushing pop off the ball end at the end of the shifter.
