These adapters are designed to allow you to easily replace your Toyota Electric Power Locking Hubs on your 1990 and later Land Cruiser Prado and Heavy Duty Land Cruiser 70 Series, and install more reliable manual locking hubs.
Compatible models include: LJ71 & LJ78 Prado, KZJ71 & KZJ78 Prado, the Heavy Duty HZJ70, HZJ73 & HZJ77 Land Cruiser (and other models that may use these power locking hubs).
Our CNC machined steel adapters grab all of the available bolt and stud holes that are used in the electric hubs, and provide a full strength bolt-up for manual hubs.
Note 1: some vehicles made after 1990-1991 came with different thickness snap rings at the end of the birfield. If you cannot get your old snap rings on the 1.8mm snap rings that are now included in the kits should help address this issue.
Hub Fitment: These adapters were optimized for use with the Toyota OEM Aisin Manual Locking Hubs - and we strongly advise using the Aisin Factory hubs as they are the best quality hubs available, offering the simplest installation for this application.
Alternatively you may use Milemarker manual hubs, or with removal of the slip ring brass and additional trimming of the locking hub slip ring steel retainer, Warn Premium hubs. We do not provide additional instructions for installing Warn Hubs.
If you are looking to obtain used hubs for your conversion, they should be from a 1981-1989 Toyota Land Cruiser, or Toyota Pick-up/Hilux with solid front axle (and not IFS).
Note 2 : We recommend that a qualified Automotive Service Technician familiar with Toyota solid front axle assembly and function installs these parts for you.
Kit Contents:
Manual Locking Hubs are available separately. Make sure you purchase 2 manual hubs, they are sold EACH.
Hub Note: Do not use 'off-shore' sourced knock-off hubs as available from some large online retailers. These hubs may not fit properly, and are typically not at all strong. Even though they may look exactly like Genuine Aisin Hubs, they are not the same thing.
Note 3: These adapters are made of steel. To prevent steel from surface rusting it needs to be covered with a protective coating such as paint... I thought this was obvious, but apparently I need to point out that steel will rust when exposed to the elements.
Note 4: The grease seal (90311-62003) that rides on the wheel bearing adjusting nut (43533-60020) must remain in place when you install these adapter plates. The installation instructions don't say to remove this seal... so don't remove it. Leave all of the parts in place that were there with the power/electric locking hubs other than what the installation instructions say to remove. Also, the slip ring (43532-60020), which has the 3 T20 fasteners (90149-50055) holding it to the adjusting nut, is the locking mechanism that holds the adjusting nut into place and prevents your wheels from falling off. The slip ring must be properly secured and in place. Don't dream up your own new instructions or try to second-guess the installation manual.
Note 5: The outer diameter of these adapters is very slightly larger than the diameter of the bearing hub, as a result they may not allow the use of hub-centric wheels. A design change is scheduled for late 2024 to permit the use of hub-centric wheels.
