This is the alternative higher ratio for Land Cruisers with 8" high pinion differentials - typically these are replacement gears for the 80 series models where a higher top speed is desired. Alternatively, you can add overdrive gears to some transfer case models.
The pinion shaft splines were upgraded in 2002 to 29 splines, from 27 splines, to improve strength. This Ring & Pinion gear set does not come with a pinion flange - please order separately using the links below or the by selecting the Related Products at the bottom of the page.

Made in Japan
A few side notes for those who like to read: These are very high (OEM) quality Japanese-made gears... some have tried to claim they are not because they have not been able to locate the Toyota part numbers in various online parts number lookups. Others have tried to say that Toyota never produced this ratio, but they are also wrong - do a little digging, and you'll find the information. It is accurate to say that Toyota is no longer offering these ratios under the above listed part numbers. However, the Japanese based gear cutters are either still making these, or they may be not, but there's still some stock left in my suppliers warehouse from which I can buying these gears.
This ratio was provided, with a few different part numbers, over the years in markets where the Land Cruisers they were equipped in have (usually) manual transmissions. The 5th gear in many of these transmissions has a very lacking overdrive given the power and torque of the more modern engine offerings, and the engine's RPMs tended to be rather high at freeway speeds (~120kph, 75mph). There are other solutions to the "I want taller gearing" question: some companies offer taller transmission 5th gears, others have offered overdriving transfer case gears, and some people used taller tires to compensate. This is one more solution to the gearing options that are out there.
