8.5V glow plugs for manual glow systems vehicles from non-North American markets such as Central and South America that have a 12V electrical system (comparatively, Canadian spec BJ4x series have 24V electrical systems and use 20.5V glow plugs in manual glow configuration).
The reason glow plugs are rated for a lower voltage than the vehicle's electrical system is to reduce the amount of time it takes for the glow plugs to come to full brightness, and also due to the voltage drop in the glow system when 4 glow plugs are activated.
