Generally speaking, it's far better to replace clutch cylinders when they are leaking and worn out.
Most cylinders fail due to age or corrosion of the bore which rapidly wears out the seals on the pistons.
Replacing your brake and clutch fluid annually can dramatically improve the lifespan of your clutch and brake components.
Note: for proper operation, ensure the spring is in place between the clutch release (slave) cylinder and the bellhousing. Improper return of the release fork can cause really weird clutch problems, a soft or ineffective pedal with improper release, or a slipping clutch.
