This switch suits 1995-1997 model years.
This switch is most commonly used as an upgrade on Land Cruiser 80 Series and Lexus LX450s with full time 4 wheel drive where being able to manually select between the locked and unlocked condition of the center locking differential in the transfer case is desired.
In some markets, this switch was included and in other market it was not. In markets where it was not installed from the factory, it can be added after-the-fact and the "pin 7 mod" can be performed to engage the lock function of the transfer case center differential. Engaging the center differential switches "full-time" 4WD into "part-time" 4WD.
Part-time 4WD divides the power (torque) between the front and rear axles evenly, whereas full-time 4WD does not. As a result of locking this center differential, part-time 4WD mode generally provides much better traction for off-road driving, however it should not be used on hard surfaces or paved surfaces as it will lead to drivetrain binding and in some (usually rare) cases cause damage to the drivetrain.
Full-time 4WD is safe to use on hard and paved surfaces that do not have slip due to mud, snow, sand etc. as the center differential provides for different amount of movement between the front and rear axles.
