Note: supplied with the gasket - because that's the only way it makes sense...

Service Note: Thermostat temperature ratings are the temperature at which the thermostat starts to open. It is not the temperature at which you cooling system will operate, and will not be the temperature you will see if you vehicle has a proper temperature gauge; many other factors affect engine operating temperature. 

Most factory installed temperature 'gauges' (they are really only a rough approximation or temperature, and are not necessarily linear) will have the needle place in about the lower 1/3 of the gauge during normal operation, and it will get to about 1/2 was if you're working the engine harder.

With the 1PZ, 1HZ, 1HDT, the thermostat is located at the water inlet to the engine, and not the water outlet to the radiator. Coolant is circulated past the thermostat by the water pump and cooling circuit to provide good temperature control. This less traditional location of the thermostat is part of the reason why it is rated at a lower temperature than some others (which are more typically 82C to 88C).
