There are other versions of this water pump available with the rear housing (Toyota calls this a 'cover') if you require this part.

Note: There are 3 configurations of water pumps available for there series of engines.

The early engines had a separate water pump and "cover housing" (goes behind the actual pump and attaches between the pump and the block); for these models you can get the "pump only" unit to replace your water pump. Or, you can opt to get a pump that has a separate "cover housing".

The later engines were built with water pumps that had an integral "cover housing" that is cast as one-piece and does not have separate parts. These pumps are compatible with all vintages if you replace the water pump + cover housing with the one-piece pump.

For later engines, there are is really only one choice - you need the pump with the "cover housing" or the one-piece pump that has no separation between the parts - and you cannot make use of the "pump only" part as the engine was supplied with the one-piece water pump casting.
